Now that’s the boring
(but necessary) bit out of the way I can ramble on as usual about what's been
happening and what is going to (hopefully) happen.
As always the start
to the season was a couple of weeks ago with the Autojumble at Kildean,
unfortunately I was a bit later in going down so missed most of the Tay Valley lot
but still managed to find plenty people to have the crack with. I thought the
selection of bits for sale was a bit poorer but there were still some excellent
bargains to be had, even in the afternoon. I took the bike down as it is
usually a pain to get parked down there and also with the thought in mind that
if I had the bike I wouldn’t come home with so much crap, it worked for once
with some sockets for £9 being my only temptation of the day. A good run home
in the failing sunshine and falling temperatures was marred a little by the
fact that my Teutonic twin decided to up the power output to that of a small
power station somewhat and started charging at around 17V, this was solved by
putting on main beam and driving home as fast as I could before the battery
boiled dry.
Last Weekend saw our
mission to Ireland to try and finalise the International Rally, Alex Dickson
and myself flew over on Friday to be met by Martin Connachie one of our
contacts over there. I’m pleased to report that the trip was a great success
and we achieved more than we thought
would be possible. Martin had a series of meetings lined up and hopefully by
the end of this week the whole thing will be effectively organised. The venue
which will hopefully be confirmed this week will be the Clonakilty Rugby Club
which is around a mile North of Clonakilty on the main Cork Road. The Rugby
club offers all the facilities we should need including ample camping and
parking space, and, more importantly two bar areas so that those who wish to Rock
can and those who fancy the pipe and slippers approach can do that also.
We met with the
caterer also and a Tent to seat around 100 people will be erected in the car
park of the club, this swill act as meeting / focal point for the weekend and
help spread the numbers around. I envisage that people will eat both at the
club and in the town of Clonakilty as there are plenty places to eat there
also.
We met with the Cork
and Kerry Tourist board also and they have been very helpful and are very
enthusiastic about the whole thing, Martin Connachie is also going to try to
get Full media coverage for the event including hopefully Television.
This part of Ireland
is very much like Scotland and if we get good weather this should be one to
remember.
Enquiries are coming
in thick and fast with people registering interest from England, France,
Belgium, Holland, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, USA and
even Antarctica . It promises to be one not to be missed.
Hopefully after
confirmation of details from last weekend's visit I can get a Entry form in the
next Roadholder and have a web page with details up and running.
Be there or be square
and miss out on a tremendous event.
Forthcoming Events
Thistle Rally February 22 –23 (this weekend)
Once again a Rally
that puts the SAS to shame, always guaranteed severe weather for camping but
also guaranteed good fun. A dram on arrival means you start the night the way
you wake up in the morning, with a numb head, the Beemers charging has been
fixed so I suppose I’ll have to go….
The
Small Print
The views and
opinions contained within this publication are not necessarily those of the NOC

you.
